Human resources

Resistance and misunderstanding from internal stakeholders (the Board, management and staff) are probably the most common issues faced by MFIs trying to undertake SPM, particularly in the context of growth. Not only do employees need to believe in the social mission and be committed to achieving it, but the MFI must also recognise that it has a social responsibility toward its employees.

This section highlights the many challenges MFIs face in applying a social lens to all aspects of human resources (HR) management. It answers key questions about how you can adapt your human resources systems and procedures for SPM:

  • How can you make sure that your staff share your mission?
  • Why is staff training on SPM important?
  • Why should you link staff performance to SPM?
  • What non-financial staff incentives can support SPM?
  • How should you integrate SPM into staff performance reviews?
  • How can you ensure that your MFI is socially responsible towards staff?
  • How can you make sure employees are satisfied?
